Bangladesh is a country of about 156 million of people containing nearly 7.81 million of slum people. Most of the slum people are migrated people from different parts of the country. The literacy rate of slum’s population is 14.6 %( Census of Slum areas and Floating Population, 1997). It has been found that almost 20% of the total populations in slums are school aged children, who do not have opportunities for school-going due to extreme poverty.
To lighten the slum children’s’ life through education SPACE-Sweet Bird Ideal School has implemented a three years’ project titled “Alternative Initiatives to Child Education in Urban Slums’’ with the financial assistance of IDEA, Onlus, Italy at Adabor slum, Dhaka. Sweet Bird Ideal School runs from KG to Class 3 having 100 students out of them boys are 61 and girls are 39.
